Hashimoto’s hypothyroidism is generally not cancerous. Hashimoto’s hypothyroidism is a stage of Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, also known as chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis, a non-infectious autoimmune disease that occurs in women. The disease has an insidious onset and a long course, with three phases: hyperthyroidism, stabilization and hypothyroidism. Risk factors for thyroid cancer include radiation, iodine overdose, genetic factors, etc. Hashimoto’s hypothyroidism is caused by the destruction of the thyroid gland by the autoimmune system, leading to hypothyroidism and loss of function, which is usually not cancerous. Patients with Hashimoto’s hypothyroidism are advised to undergo regular checkups to monitor their thyroid function and to take treatment under the guidance of their doctors.
