How to rehabilitate hemiplegic ankles

Hemiplegic ankle rehabilitation training mainly includes manipulation training, ankle dorsiflexion training, motor control training, etc. It should be noted that hemiplegic training emphasizes more on the holistic approach, and problems manifested in the ankle joint cannot be solved by training the ankle only. In hemiplegic patients, ankle joint problems are often characterized by foot inversion and foot drop. 1. Manipulation training: Position the patient’s lower limb in abduction and external rotation, hold the patient’s foot, and pull the muscles around the ankle joint forward and outward to keep the local muscles in a passive state of pulling, in order to alleviate the muscle stiffness and spasm, and reduce the inversion of the foot, and at the same time, expand the mobility of the ankle joint, and maintain the normal range of joint activities. 2. Ankle dorsiflexion training: the patient can lie in supine position, flex the hip and knee, and the therapist can press the muscles between the 1st and 2nd metatarsal bones with fingers to promote ankle dorsiflexion. 3. Motor control training: for patients with good motor function. The patient lies supine, and the heel of the affected side is placed on the knee, tibialis anterior, and inner ankle of the healthy leg to carry out rhythmic, coordinated, upward or downward sliding, and adjust the speed and rhythm with the therapist’s command. In addition, ankle-foot braces can be used, and Achilles tendonotomy can be performed for severe inversion of the foot. Hemiplegic ankle rehabilitation training should be carried out under the guidance of a professional doctor to avoid delaying the time of rehabilitation.
