The dosage of Ginseng and Mai Tang is 20 grams of raw yam, 12 grams of dried maitake, 10 grams of burdock, 10 grams of ginseng, 10 grams of raw peony, 6 grams of radix et Rhizoma Pinelliae, 6 grams of soursop, and 5 grams of licorice, which should be adjusted according to the different situations, and should not be generalized.
Ginseng and Mai Tang is from the first volume of Formulas of Medical Zhongzhong Ganshi Lu (《医学衷中参西錄》), which has the effect of lowering rebelliousness and suppressing wheezing, moistening the lungs and relieving cough. It can be used to treat long-lasting deficiency of yin, which leads to lung deficiency with phlegm, cough and wheezing, or tuberculosis in the lungs.
Ginseng is the main medicine for tonifying the lungs. Ophiopogon is the main medicine for tonifying the lungs, while maitake is the key product for moisturizing the lungs. Yam can help ginseng to replenish qi and maitake to nourish yin (nourish the yin fluid of the body). Burdock can reduce the rebelliousness of lung qi, Semen Arctium can reduce the rebelliousness of stomach qi and flushing qi (treating hiccups), and Su Zi, when used with ginseng, can reduce the rebelliousness of rebellious qi due to deficiency. Paeonia lactiflora is used with licorice, which is close to ginseng and is a lung tonic.
The contraindications, precautions and adverse reactions of this formula are not clear.
