Swelling and pain in the ear canal may be caused by otitis externa, acute otitis media, and boils on the external ear canal.
1. Otitis externa: widespread acute and chronic inflammation of the skin or subcutaneous tissue of the external auditory canal. Incorrectly pulling out the ears, water entering the external ear canal, and systemic diseases with decreased resistance can cause otitis externa, which can lead to swelling and pain in the ear canal.
2. Boil of the external auditory canal: limited purulent inflammation of the skin of the external auditory canal. Due to factors such as bacterial infection of the skin of the external auditory canal caused by ear digging, unclean water entering the external auditory canal and so on, it leads to the occurrence of boils in the external auditory canal, which will gradually swell up and turn into pus, so there is a phenomenon of swelling and pain in the ear canal.
3. Acute otitis media: Due to bacterial pus infection in the middle ear cavity, the pus will press on the pain-sensitive eardrum, resulting in swelling and pain in the ear canal.
When the swelling and pain of the ear canal occurs, it is recommended that the patient go to the hospital in time to improve the examination, clear diagnosis, and standardized treatment under the guidance of the doctor.
