How to pay scientific attention to children’s height

In modern life, height is not only a sign of physical beauty, but also affects future employment and marriage matters. However, many parents are not aware of their children’s growth and development, and children’s short stature is always a problem for parents. Many parents do not pay enough attention to the problems that need to be taken into account in their children’s growth and development, or they find out that their children are short and do not have the guidance of the relevant experts, so they rush to the doctor. All these can be detrimental to the healthy growth of children. The final height of a person is the result of the interaction between heredity and environment. Genetics determines the growth potential of height, while acquired environmental factors determine whether the growth potential can be fully realized. Provide nutritionally balanced, adequate, but not excessive food; allow children to get enough exercise, get enough sleep, and stay physically and mentally happy; and prevent and actively treat illness. In this way, the growth potential given by congenital can be fully realized and the ideal height of the child can be achieved. There are two periods in a person’s life when growth and development are fastest, namely infancy and adolescence. Infancy is the period from birth to 1 year old, during which the height grows 25 cm, which is the fastest growing period in a person’s life. During adolescence, a sudden increase in growth occurs, and the annual growth rate of height is generally 3-5%. The annual value-added is generally 5-7 cm, individual can reach 10-12 cm, after puberty, height growth basically stops. So how to determine whether a child’s height is normal or not, which requires an objective standard. Height below the current height standard value (refer to the height standard comparison table), less than one standard deviation is mildly slow growth and should be brought to attention, less than two standard deviations is growth retardation; or measuring less than 7 cm per year in infancy (up to 3 years old) and less than 4-5 cm per year in childhood (3 years old – puberty) should be seen in the hospital. With the help of a doctor, find the cause of your child’s short stature and take the time to treat it. It should also be noted that some children are not short, but mistakenly thought to be short due to high parental expectations, and need to be judged by a professional doctor. Therefore, regular medical checkups can help parents understand the developmental status of their children’s height and weight, and identify problems that occur during the growth process for early intervention and treatment. What aspects of daily life should we pay attention to? First of all, nutrition. Compared to adults, pediatricians need more nutrition to meet their growth and development needs. Therefore, balanced nutrition, to ensure that children have an adequate supply of carbohydrates, protein, fat, vitamins and minerals, and appropriate consumption of coarse grains is the key. Next is sleep. Human growth depends on the growth hormone secreted by the anterior pituitary gland, and growth hormone is mainly secreted during sleep. Therefore, children’s long-term lack of sleep is bound to affect the growth of height. Generally speaking, children should sleep 9-10 hours a day. Again, exercise. Physical exercise can increase metabolism, promote bone growth, and can enhance the body’s ability to prevent disease, reduce disease. Children should participate in more outdoor bouncing activities, do more stretching gymnastics. For example, swimming, dancing, badminton, table tennis, bar, etc. And those weight-bearing, contraction or compression exercises, such as weightlifting, lifting dumbbells, tensioners, wrestling, long-distance running, etc., are not good for height growth. Then there are diseases. Frequent illness or chronic organic disease can affect growth. If a sickly child pulls away from a normal child by 5 cm or more in the first year, it is more difficult to catch up later within the limited rate of height growth. Therefore, it is important to reduce morbidity and actively treat chronic diseases. The last thing is not to abuse “height increasing drugs”. At present, there are a variety of height increasing drugs and growth foods on the market that contain sex hormones, etc. Under the stimulation of sex hormones, children will experience a short period of accelerated growth, but sex hormones are a hormone that promotes bone maturation, which will shorten the growth years of children, advance the development of bone age and close the epiphysis, which will lead to a shortened growth time and result in a shorter final height in adulthood. It is counterproductive to help children to grow up, which will lead to shorter final height.
