From the overall view of TCM, tumors often develop in a certain part of human body, but they are related to the whole function of human body. According to Chinese medicine, tumors are caused by stagnation of blood, stagnation of phlegm, phlegm, heat and toxicity, etc. under certain environmental conditions. For example, tumors in the neck and throat are related to qi and phlegm stagnation; tumors in the breast, uterus and ovaries are mostly related to liver and blood stagnation; tumors in the liver are related to dampness and heat and fire; tumors in the gastrointestinal tract are related to water and drinks not transforming, dampness and heat stagnation or cold and damp stagnation. Chinese medicine believes that tumors in any part of the body are closely related to the dysfunction of internal organs in the area of occurrence. However, liver is the main body’s drainage and qi flow, kidney yang warms the five organs, and spleen and stomach are the main body’s qi flow up and down. The treatment of tumors should take into account the role of the five organs in the functioning of the human body. Therefore, TCM believes that the occurrence of tumor is actually the malfunction of the whole human body. The local tumor is the symptom, and the deficiency of overall vital energy is the root. In the process of treatment, we have to balance the primary and secondary importance of the symptoms and the root cause, some take the treatment of the symptoms as the first priority, and some take the treatment of the root cause as the first priority. The first principle is to “treat the disease and keep the patient”. Chinese medicine’s understanding of tumor etiology: Chinese medicine mostly attributes the etiology of tumor to stagnation of phlegm and dampness, that is to say, tumor is caused by the mutual gelation of qi, blood, phlegm and dampness and other case products. However, if we follow the general treatment of qi stagnation, blood stasis and phlegm stagnation, the effect is not good. This prompts us to further investigate the real nature of tumor. In fact, the nature of tumor is fundamentally different from the general internal medicine of qi stagnation, blood stasis, phlegm and dampness accumulation and stagnation. In patients with tumors, there are indeed factors of stagnation of qi, stagnation of blood, stagnation of phlegm and stagnation of dampness. However, the essence is the existence of cancer toxicity. Cancer toxin is different from fire toxin, heat toxin and damp toxin in general Chinese medicine. It is a strong pathogenic toxin formed on the basis of the six sexes, seven emotions, diet, labor and weariness and other triggers. To treat this toxin, it is necessary to use severe drugs, i.e. “attacking poison with poison”. Chinese medicine treatment principle for tumor: human body has the ability of self-protection and self-healing. The human body also has its own resistance ability to tumor. When the self-protection function of human body is sufficient to contain cancerous toxin, it will be normal; when the self-protection ability of human body is insufficient, it will be tumor occurrence. This ability of self-protection is not necessarily proportional to the body’s positive energy. Some people with weak body may not necessarily suffer from cancer, while some with strong body may suffer from cancer. The strength of cancer toxicity is the key factor of tumor occurrence. Therefore, tumor patients are weak due to disease, and the main treatment is to attack the evil. But attacking the evil should take into account the side of positive deficiency.
