Post-operative review time and items for gastric cancer

But as a family member, I have mixed feelings. I am happy that the patient recovered smoothly, but I am worried that I don’t know how to follow up after surgery, although the doctor has explained it, but I don’t remember much. 1.Why do we need to review and follow up after surgery? Review is to re-evaluate the physical condition of the patient after surgery. Follow-up is an observation method to understand the change of patients’ condition and guide their recovery regularly. The follow-up visit is conducive to the development of medical research work and the improvement of medical workers’ business level. At the same time, the follow-up visit is also a process that patients should actively participate in, and they must go to the hospital to complete the review and follow-up visit on time so that corresponding treatment measures can be given in time when the disease shows signs of recurrence. 2.What are the items of follow-up examinations and what is the purpose of the examination? Routine blood test: the most basic blood test, to clarify whether there is any change in the composition of blood. Blood biochemistry: to detect the content of ions, sugars, lipids, proteins, enzymes, hormones and metabolites in the blood. Tumor markers: chemical substances related to the presence of tumors. It can indicate the nature of tumor, prognosis judgment and treatment guidance Abdominal ultrasound: screening for tumor recurrence and metastasis in substantial organs such as liver, spleen and abdominal cavity. Abdominal CT: Complementary to abdominal ultrasound, it can also be used as a confirmatory examination after abdominal ultrasound finds problems. Chest CT: screening whether the lung is metastatic Gastroscopy: screening whether the local tumor is recurrent PET/CT: not routinely recommended, but used when the tumor markers are continuously elevated and the above examination does not find any problem. 3.How long is the time interval for review? The general principle and follow-up time: follow-up every 3 months within 2 years after surgery, follow-up review every 6 months after 2 years, and annual follow-up after 5 years.
