The possible clinical causes of eyelid twitching in a 5-year-old boy during nap are over-exertion of the eyes, tic disorders and epilepsy. 1. Excessive eye use: If the child uses his eyes excessively, it will lead to eye fatigue and eyelid twitching. 2. Tourette’s syndrome: There are two types of this disorder, motor tics and vocal tics, in which children with motor tics may have clinical manifestations such as frowning and blinking, and may also have symptoms such as eyelid twitching. 3. Epilepsy: Eyelid twitching may be a manifestation of generalized grand mal or partial petit mal seizures, in which case parents are advised to take their children to the hospital for an electroencephalogram (EEG). If the symptoms persist, it is recommended to seek medical treatment as soon as possible.
