A herniated lumbar disc is a more serious condition if it exceeds 5 mm when measured on CT. However, this imaging judgment also needs to be combined with the corresponding clinical symptoms to make a comprehensive interpretation. For example, in some patients, although the herniation is more severe, their clinical symptoms are relatively mild and the overall lumbar disc herniation is relatively mild. However, some patients with mild herniation may also exhibit correspondingly heavy clinical symptoms. However, in most patients, the clinical symptoms are positively correlated with the degree of herniation, that is, the more severe the herniation is, the more severe the clinical symptoms are. Patients suffering from lumbar disc herniation should be treated accordingly under the guidance of a doctor after relevant evaluation. If the herniation is more severe, the patient may have to prefer conservative treatment, and in case the conservative treatment is ineffective or not good, the patient needs to switch to minimally invasive surgical treatment.
