Is abdominal wall hernia surgery a major operation

Abdominal wall hernia surgery is routinely performed in general surgery and is not considered a major surgery. A hernia is a condition in which an organ or tissue in the body leaves its normal position and enters another part of the body through a congenital or acquired weakness. In the case of an abdominal wall hernia, the tissue in the abdominal cavity, through a weak area in the abdominal wall, or a surgical incision in the abdominal wall, gradually expands outward to form a mass. In principle, surgery is the treatment of choice for abdominal wall hernias. Hernia is a common disease in general surgery, and abdominal wall hernia surgery is one of the routinely performed surgeries, which is not considered to be a particularly major surgery. Many abdominal wall hernia surgeries can now be performed laparoscopically, where the weak area is repaired and the bulging tissue is removed appropriately. If a hernia sac is present, the hernia neck can be ligated and removed. If the weak area of the defect is large, repair with artificial polymer material may be considered.
