Current situation and development trend of medication education for the elderly at home and abroad

I. Status of foreign research. Western developed countries have achieved good results in the rational use of medication popularization and publicity work for the elderly, take the United States as an example: in 1984, the United States, the elderly over 65 years of age accounted for 11% of the total population, the consumption of prescriptions accounted for 1.5 billion of the total volume of nearly 1/3 of the total prescriptions. 1988 Solano City, United States of America, the public launch of the medication record book, followed by the development of the elderly theatre education program, in the form of a musical to promote the rational use of drugs to the elderly. In 1997, the Patient Education and Counseling Act was enacted, specifying why and how patient education should be conducted. At present, the providers of medication education are physicians, nurses and pharmacists, the evaluation system of medication science education is sound, the bases of medication science education are rich, and the forms of propaganda are various, including oral, audio, video, written, telephone, mail and home visits. Second, the status of domestic research. In 2011, the State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) issued the Food and Drug Safety Popularization Action Plan 2011~2015, which guided the deployment of food and drug regulatory departments at all levels to carry out the “National Safe Use of Drugs Month”, “Food and Drug Safety Knowledge Lecture Hall”, “Food and Drug Safety Knowledge Lecture Hall”, and “Food and Drug Safety Education”. Food and Drug Safety Knowledge Lecture Hall” and a series of thematic publicity activities to guide the general public to use medicines in a safe and rational manner. In 2013, the main responsibilities of the State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) and its internal organizations and staffing regulations, for the first time, “responsible for carrying out food and drug safety publicity, education and training” was included in the main responsibilities of the SFDA. 2014 National Pharmaceutical Society popularization of science and technology publicity theme was designated as In 2014, the theme of the National Pharmaceutical Society’s popularization of science was “Safe Use of Drugs * Concern for the Elderly”, and the meeting provided ideas for the rational use of drugs for the elderly popularization of science and publicity. Although a lot of work has been done to publicize the rational use of medication for the elderly under the overall guidance of the state, up to now China has not yet issued any pharmacist law to stipulate the duties, rights and responsibilities of pharmacists, and has not yet seen written guidelines related to medication education. Rational drug use publicity for the public still exists a lot of problems: publicity coverage is too broad, not a system, the effect to be evaluated; publicity content is mixed, the focus is not clear; the source of information is confusing, the lack of authority; the lack of overall and long-term planning; means of publicity monolithic, poor targeting, and has not yet achieved the true benefit of the people’s science and technology. Third, the development trend. Popularization of science is a vivid and lively science, which should be authoritative. According to the international trend, under the guidance of national policies and the efforts of professionals and technicians at all levels, the popularization of rational use of medicines for the elderly should focus on creating and consolidating the brand of popularization of science recognized by the public as easy to obtain, acceptable, trustworthy and memorable, gradually standardizing the catalog of publicity for knowledge related to rational use of medicines for the elderly and clarifying publicity objectives and so on, so as to make it into a system to improve the effect of popularization of science, to be grounded and easy to be digested, and to carry out great collaboration, Efforts to develop the informationization of popularization of science, focusing on the development of network channels for popularization of science, and further expanding the idea of linkage with the communication media; popularization of science should take the road of the masses, and the content should be centered on the prevention of injuries arising from improper use of medicines, and the focus of popularization of science should be to go into the community to play the effect of amplification and rapid expansion of the effect.
