What does open sinus surgery mean?

Open Sinus Surgery is usually a procedure that focuses on surgically removing the tissues around the sinus openings and enlarging the sinus orifices. This is a minimally invasive procedure that aims to correct the anatomical abnormalities of the nasal cavity, remove irreversible lesions from the nasal cavity, and then preserve as much healthy mucosal tissue as possible in order to re-establish nasal and sinus ventilation and drainage. Patients who are ineffective on standardized medication, have significant anatomical abnormalities, or develop intracranial or intraorbital complications may be considered for open sinus surgery under nasal endoscopy. It is important to note that surgery is contraindicated in principles under 12 years of age. Preoperative patients need topical medication to minimize inflammation of the nasal and sinus mucosa.
