Fall “knee pain” do not forget the “osteoarthritis”

In autumn, the climate is cold, some friends inadvertently cold, there will be knee pain, often do not pay attention to, until walking difficulties, to the hospital consultation, only to know that osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis, commonly known as “bone spurs” and “osteophytes”, starts with joint pain and difficulty in squatting, but later can lead to pain going up and down stairs, and if not seen in time, can eventually lead to joint deformity, functional paralysis and the need for joint replacement. The cold climate is the main reason for the occurrence and aggravation of osteoarthritis, so you should protect your joints in the fall and beware of osteoarthritis. So, what should patients with osteoarthritis pay attention to in their daily lives in the fall and how can they take care of themselves in order to get through the fall safely? First: protect the affected joints to prevent further damage. Easily involved joints should be protected so that they can get sufficient rest, do not overuse them, and avoid strenuous joint activities and excessive weight bearing. People with hip or knee joint involvement should avoid standing, running, playing ball or walking long distances for too long. If your knees get stiff after sitting for a long time, you can do a little “warm-up exercise” before standing up, i.e., gently swing your legs a few times. Second: Get more sunlight, pay attention to the cold and dampness of the joints, and keep them warm. The most obvious feature of osteoarthritis is that the pain is worse when it is cold, so patients should pay attention to keeping the whole body and joints warm in autumn, especially the lesions should be especially protected. Humid conditions and damp skin can lead to increased joint pain. Therefore, patients with osteoarthritis should pay attention to keeping their skin dry in the fall, and their clothing and bedding should be frequently tanned in the sun. Third: Exercise properly. Excessive rest or exercise is not good for osteoarthritis. Therefore, people with osteoarthritis should take a walk outdoors in the fall, once or twice a day on a flat surface for 20-30 minutes. But try to reduce up and down the steps, running, playing tai chi and other exercises that make the knee joint weighted, and do not blindly do repeated flexion and extension of the knee joint, rubbing the patella, shaking the knee joint and other exercises. Fourth: It is advisable to eat more food rich in gum and calcium. A glass of milk a day is necessary, beans, green leafy vegetables, stewed bone broth, canned fish with bones, etc., can increase the absorption of calcium. And some foods rich in magnesium, selenium and vitamins A and E, such as seafood, eggs, vegetables, potatoes, nuts and coarse grains, can protect and repair joints, maintain the normal state of tissues and promote blood circulation. Fifth: Identify the evidence to take drugs. Chinese medicine treatment of osteoarthritis of the knee is generally from the liver and kidneys to start. In women, the liver and kidney are gradually weakened after middle age, and after menopause, the liver and kidney function is even weaker, and the tendons and bones are not nourished. Therefore, under the guidance of a doctor, osteoarthritis patients can take medicines that nourish the liver and kidneys, such as Liu Wei Di Huang Wan, Jin Kui Kidney Qi Wan, Qiao Ji Di Huang Wan, Zuo Gui Wan, and Right Gui Wan in autumn.
