It is usually not normal for a newborn to be hungry and not cry, as crying from hunger is instinctive. This condition may be associated with sepsis, hypothyroidism, Down’s syndrome, neonatal encephalopathy and so on. 1. Sepsis: a more serious infection. In sepsis, the newborn will have decreased crying and lethargy. 2. Hypothyroidism: When the thyroid hormone level is reduced due to iodine deficiency in the diet of pregnant women or congenital thyroid developmental abnormality in newborns, the newborns will have less milk intake and less crying. 3. Down’s syndrome: also known as trisomy 21, caused by chromosome segregation abnormalities, the newborn period can be manifested as lethargy, feeding difficulties, hungry and do not cry, and so on. 4. Neonatal encephalopathy: such as neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, hypoglycemic encephalopathy and other diseases that affect the brain function may lead to neonatal hunger without crying, poor response and other manifestations. 5. Other: can also be seen in some genetic metabolic diseases, due to sugar, protein and other metabolic disorders, resulting in the accumulation of metabolites in the body, causing the newborn to appear poor response, cry less, eat less milk and so on. Therefore, if the newborn hungry not cry such a situation has persisted, it is recommended to consult a doctor in a timely manner to clarify the cause of the disease and then targeted treatment.
