What is the NST test?

The NST test, also known as the non-stress test, is a method of monitoring the fetal heart in the abdomen after 34 weeks of pregnancy. The NST uses Doppler to monitor the fetal heart or a fetal heart recorder to assess fetal maturity and to better determine the safety of the fetus in the mother’s uterine cavity, such as determining whether the fetus is hypoxic in the uterine cavity, and determining whether the fetal heartbeat rhythms and patterns are normal when the fetus is moving. The non-stress test can be categorized as either reactive or non-reactive, with the reactive test showing that the fetus’ cardio-neurological system is well developed, while the non-reactive test will show that the fetus may be asphyxiated and require further examination. In addition, pregnant mothers are advised to eat and rest regularly in their daily life, strengthen exercise appropriately, avoid excessive fatigue, keep a good state of mind, and go to the hospital for regular checkups.
