How long can you live with severe jaundice?

How long you can live with severe jaundice depends on the specific type, treatment and individual patient factors, and cannot be generalized. There are many causes of jaundice and hepatitis, and the common causes are hepatitis A, hepatitis E, alcoholic hepatitis, viral hepatitis, etc. If the patient’s underlying condition is good, after active treatment, clinical recovery is usually achieved in 3 months and will not affect life expectancy. If the patient’s condition is acute, poor underlying condition and not effectively treated, liver failure can occur, at which point the patient has a high mortality rate. If the jaundice is caused by drugs, liver-protective treatment under the guidance of a hepatobiliary physician is sufficient, and the patient’s life expectancy is not affected. In the case of chronic jaundice, it is generally difficult to cure completely and the survival time of the patient varies from case to case. Once jaundice appears, patients are advised to visit the hepatobiliary department of a regular hospital in a timely manner for a clear diagnosis and active treatment.
