What kind of ear drops can pregnant women use

Pregnant women should not use any antimicrobial ear drops except for sodium bicarbonate ear drops to soften cerumen and boric acid alcohol ear drops for anti-inflammatory and disinfection purposes. The antimicrobial ear drops are basically quinolone ear drops, and quinolones are prohibited for pregnant women. Cephalosporins or penicillins, which can be used by pregnant women, do not have such antibiotic ear drops because they have the side effect of causing severe allergic reflexes. In case of chronic purulent otitis media or fungal otitis externa, boric acid alcohol ear drops can be used, but they are highly irritating and can cause severe and transient pain in the ear after the drops. In the case of purulent otitis media, a bacterial culture of the pus is needed before choosing an antibiotic that is sensitive and has no side effects on pregnant women for treatment.
