A 7mm ground glass lung nodule can be further examined to determine if surgery is needed, and if it is a malignant nodule then surgery is required. Lung nodules can be categorized into three types: solid nodules, partially solid nodules, and pure ground-glass nodules, with pure ground-glass nodules being less likely to be malignant than partially solid nodules. A 7-mm ground-glass lung nodule should undergo prompt surgical eradication if the pathologic puncture biopsy reveals a malignant nodule. If it is a benign lesion, the primary disease should be treated promptly to prevent further cancerous changes. If the 7mm nodule is benign, and if surgery is not needed for the time being, it is necessary to review the nodule on a regular basis, closely observe the changes of the nodule, and be alert to the possibility of cancerous changes. Thoracic surgery should also be considered when the nodule is found to have increased in size during follow-up. If the nodules remain unchanged, follow-up should continue.
