Can SLE get sunlight?

Sun exposure is not recommended for SLE patients. Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a connective tissue disease that invades many organs in the body of the patient, and the symptoms of skin damage often appear. Patients with this disease will also have photosensitivity to the skin, and the ultraviolet rays in the sun will aggravate or induce skin damage, resulting in aggravation of alopecia, gangrene of dorsum of the foot, and erythema on the palmar surfaces of the hands and feet after exposure to the sun, therefore, it is not recommended to sunbathe in the sun for patients with SLE. SLE patients should wear wide-brimmed hats, long-sleeved clothes or long pants, and carry umbrellas to avoid exposure to ultraviolet rays. They should also pay attention to avoiding photosensitive foods such as mud snails, figs and celery in their daily diet, and they should be treated in time if their skin damages worsen. It is recommended that SLE patients go to the rheumatology and immunology departments of regular hospitals for detailed consultation and treatment as prescribed by doctors.
