How to differentiate between Shangqiu and Zhongfeng points

Shangqiu and Zhongfeng points can be differentiated on the basis of meridian attribution, localization and main treatment.
1. Meridian: Shangqiu is an acupoint on the Foot Taiyin Spleen Meridian, and Zhongfeng is an acupoint on the Foot Syncopal Liver Meridian.
2. Localization: Shangqiu is located in the ankle area, below the anterior part of the inner ankle, in the depression at the midpoint of the line between the tip of the inner ankle and the rough ridge of the navicular bone. Zhongfeng is located in the ankle area, in front of the inner ankle, in the depression of the medial edge of the tibialis anterior muscle tendon.
3. Main Treatment: Shangqiu point can be used to treat diarrhea, abdominal distension, abdominal pain, constipation, ankle pain, jaundice and other conditions. Zhongfeng acupoint can be used for treating hernia pain, dysuria (dyspareunia), lesser abdominal pain (pain in the lower abdomen), lumbago, spermatorrhea and other conditions.
The above points can be used for acupuncture and tuina, but there may be slight pain after acupuncture or tuina; the above operations are contraindicated for patients who have fractures at the ankle; and the angle of needle insertion should be controlled when needling in order to avoid injury to blood vessels.
It is recommended that acupuncture and massage be performed by a professional Chinese medicine technician and not by yourself to avoid adverse consequences.
