Do all patients with lupus erythematosus have to take hormones?

For patients with discoid lupus erythematosus who have only skin damage, hormones are not mandatory and hormone inhibitors can be applied topically. Hormones are also not necessary for all patients with SLE. Some patients with only mild joint pain without visceral damage can take only NSAIDs such as ibuprofen, fotarolimus, chinolimus, etc., or clearing chloroquine. Those with no obvious clinical manifestations of antinuclear antibody positivity also need only symptomatic treatment and do not need to take hormones, but should be checked regularly under close observation of physicians. Only patients with clinical symptoms and obvious signs, such as pleural fluid, pericardial effusion, kidney, brain and heart damage should be considered for hormone application. The dose of hormone administration should be individualized. Generally speaking, critically ill patients should use large doses or use shock doses, and gradually reduce the dose after the condition stabilizes and switch to maintenance doses.
