How to read the results of biochemical experiments on Escherichia coli bacteria

The results of biochemical tests for Escherichia coli should be positive for lactose reaction, and the results of IMViC (Indole-Methyl Red-Acetyl Methyl Alcohol-Citrate Utilization Test) should be positive – positive – negative -negative. From the pathogenesis of Escherichia coli, the bacterium can ferment lactose to produce acid and gas, so the lactose test is positive.IMViC are I: Indole test (positive if it is rosy red, negative if it does not change color), M: Methyl red test (positive if it is red, negative if it is yellow), V: Acetylmethyl methanol (V-P) test (negative if it produces no color), and C: Citrate Utilization Test (containing bromine). Muscovite blue slant blue is a positive reaction, green color is negative; slant containing phenol red if red is a positive reaction, yellow is negative). IMViC is mainly used for rapid identification of E. coli and E. aerogenes. If it is Enterobacter aerogenes, the IMViC result is: –++.
