If the thermoregulatory center is malfunctioning, the cause of the condition is sought and treatment is given to address the cause. If the abnormality of the thermoregulatory center is due to a bacterial or viral infection that causes a pyrogenic source, antibiotic or antiviral therapy is given. If the abnormalities in central function are due to problems in the central nervous system itself, such as trauma or cerebrovascular disease, treatment for central nervous recovery, including the use of surgery, is given. Tumors or autoimmune system diseases that cause abnormalities in the thermoregulatory center are considered to be due to immune complexes formed by autoantibodies or thermogenic sources caused by secretions from tumors, resulting in thermoregulatory malfunctions, requiring immunosuppressive therapy or radiotherapy or chemotherapy for tumors.
