How much stenosis requires stenting

Generally, stenting is considered when the degree of stenosis needs to be more than 70% and there is significant ischemia, but this is not entirely based on the degree of stenosis, but also depends on the location of the stenosis as well as the doctor’s observation of the patient’s overall condition for the procedure. Common stenosis is mainly intracranial arteries, carotid arteries, coronary arteries of the heart, but stenting does not depend entirely on the degree of stenosis of blood vessels, because sometimes even if the degree of stenosis of blood vessels is more than 70%, or even long segments of blood vessels have been occluded, there are still many side branches of the blood vessels to take on the function of transporting blood, to ensure that the distal organs and tissues of the blood supply, in which case there is no need to do a stent. If the side branches are unable to supply blood in time, the distal organs and tissues are ischemic, and the degree of stenosis is greater than 70%, then stenting is considered necessary. Therefore, the decision should be made according to the patient’s specific stenosis site, the presence or absence of distal ischemia, and then combined with the degree of stenosis. If the degree of stenosis reaches more than 70%, further treatment or therapy should be carried out after analyzing the patient’s condition under the guidance of a doctor.
