The duration of rabeprazole administration is related to the disease being treated and usually takes about 4-8 weeks, but some patients may need to take it for longer. Rabeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor that inhibits gastric acid secretion and has a long duration of action. It can be commonly used clinically for gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer, reflux esophagitis, and Helicobacter pylori infection. The dosage and duration of treatment of rabeprazole varies with each patient’s disease and the severity of the disease. Most patients with duodenal ulcers can be cured with 4-6 weeks of medication, a few patients need about 8 weeks of medication, and very few patients may need longer. Gastric ulcers require 6-8 weeks of medication, a few patients require 8-12 weeks of medication, and severe cases require a longer course of treatment. In patients with GERD, the duration of treatment is usually 8-12 weeks, with some patients even requiring long-term medication, but how the dose is adjusted varies from person to person. In patients with H. pylori infection, a combination of antibiotics and bismuth is required for 2 weeks. It should be noted that no matter which disease is used for treatment, the medication needs to be adjusted according to the condition. On a daily basis, a light and easily digestible diet is recommended, avoiding foods or water that are too hot or irritating.
