The metatarsal bones are small round tubular bones, with a total of 5 pieces, arranged in the forefoot, from medial to lateral, as the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th metatarsals in order, with the 5th metatarsal located at the most lateral part of the middle of the foot. The 5th metatarsal is divided into 4 parts: the base, stem, neck, and head. The head of the 5th metatarsal, which is the distal end of the 5th metatarsal, is connected to the base of the proximal phalanx of the little finger and forms the 5th metatarsophalangeal joint. The proximal end of the 5th metatarsal, also known as the base of the 5th metatarsal, is connected to the dice bone to form the metatarsophalangeal joint. In analogy to the hand, the 5th metatarsal of the foot is equivalent to the 5th metacarpal of the hand. A fracture of the 5th metatarsal is one of the more common fractures of the foot.
