Effectiveness of amoxicillin in the treatment of otitis media

Amoxicillin is still effective in the treatment of otitis media, but it is important to use the medication according to the specific situation. Amoxicillin, as an antibiotic, is effective for both secretory otitis media and purulent otitis media. However, for secretory otitis media, on top of oral amoxicillin, it is recommended to take some oral medications that promote the absorption of fluid and the disappearance of mucosal edema, such as eucalyptus lemongrass enteric soft capsules. In case of purulent otitis media, it is recommended to use topical oxyfloxacin ear drops on top of oral amoxicillin. If amoxicillin is applied for a long time, it can be appropriately replaced with relatively more effective amoxicillin clavulanate potassium orally, which may be more effective compared to amoxicillin.
