Can thin people with type 1 diabetes have diabetes surgery?

From the time diabetes surgery was proven to be effective in treating obesity type 2 diabetes decades ago, until now there have been many sugar patients who have reversed their condition through weight loss and glucose metabolism reduction surgery. With the current rise in the number of type 2 diabetes in China every year, more and more people will be treated with diabetes surgery in the future. And can some of these type 1 diabetes patients, who are also suffering from diabetes, use this approach to treat their diabetes? In fact, diabetes surgery is also known as metabolic surgery, and there is an important threshold for this surgery, which is the patient’s pancreatic islet function. The main reason why surgery can cure diabetes is related to the function of the islets. Currently, most of the causes of type 2 diabetes are heavy obesity, which produces insulin resistance that affects the glucose metabolism function in the body and leads to diabetes. The mechanism of surgical treatment is mainly from losing body fat to deal with insulin resistance and restore the glucose metabolism function in the body, which can effectively reverse the disease. In this process, it is very important that the insulin function in the body is not completely destroyed, the insulin resistance of the body only affects the insulin function, so the premise that the insulin function is not completely lost through surgery to “repair”. Type 1 diabetes has little to do with weight or obesity, it is due to the destruction of the immune system, so it is often accompanied by the destruction of normal insulin function, diabetes surgery does not work in this case. The body completely loses the function of breaking down sugar, and the current treatment for type 1 diabetes is only insulin injections.
