Cerebral palsy (CP) is a syndrome caused by non-progressive brain damage during the development of the brain before birth and up to one year after birth. After the control of poliomyelitis, cerebral palsy has become an important disorder causing disability in children. The causes of pediatric cerebral palsy are multiple and the extent of brain damage is diffuse. Brain damage involves both the cerebral cortex and the medulla; there is damage to the brain as well as the cerebellum and brainstem. Therefore, children with cerebral palsy often have complex functional disorders. There are central motor disorders, abnormal postural reflexes and abnormal motor patterns, but also mental retardation, psycho-behavioral disorders, perceptual disorders, language disorders, swallowing disorders, mastication disorders and audio-visual disorders. The rehabilitation treatment of cerebral palsy is extensive and has many components. As a result, it is difficult to rehabilitate the complex condition biomedically. The rehabilitation treatment period is long, costly, difficult and the cure rate is low. Early detection, early intervention, and early rehabilitation can prevent cerebral palsy from occurring in many high-risk children. The incidence of disability can be reduced and the degree of disability can be reduced. The incidence of cerebral palsy in children in China is reported to be about 5 per 1,000. It is projected that there are several million children with cerebral palsy in China. With the improvement of neonatal emergency medical technology, more extremely low weight babies, premature babies, hyperbilirubinemia, severe hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy, etc. have been successfully rescued. In the past, pediatric cerebral palsy was considered an “incurable disease”, but with the birth and rapid development of rehabilitation medicine in the 20th century, it has brought a boon to children with cerebral palsy. There are many international rehabilitation treatment systems, which are described in this book. Domestic child neurological rehabilitation centers are also developing and growing, and the treatment methods include physical therapy (PT), occupational therapy (OT), speech therapy (ST), hydrotherapy, physical factor therapy, and psychological behavior therapy. Not only have the effective rehabilitation methods from abroad been absorbed, but also Chinese medicine, Chinese herbal medicine, massage, acupuncture treatment and other methods have been integrated into China. For example, the children’s rehabilitation center where the author works has achieved remarkable treatment results, which are well received by families and society and have won national awards. About 80% of the children with cerebral palsy in China are located in rural areas, working class and working families with poor economic conditions. Many children are deprived of treatment because they do not have the time to accompany their children for long-term treatment, or they cannot afford to pay the high rehabilitation costs, or because of inconvenient transportation and other factors. In China, for various reasons, most children with cerebral palsy are not detected, diagnosed and rehabilitated at an early stage, thus missing the critical period for correction. In order to enable these children to receive proper home rehabilitation treatment, we have compiled our 20 years of experience in cerebral palsy rehabilitation, rehabilitation training, massage, nursing, language training, psychotherapy, family education, and Chinese medicine diet therapy into this book. The book is very suitable for home rehabilitation of children with cerebral palsy. Under the regular guidance of physicians, parents learn to master the appropriate rehabilitation techniques so that children with cerebral palsy can get the necessary, standardized and effective rehabilitation at home. As long as long-term home rehabilitation is adhered to, most of the affected children will reach full self-care, so as to relieve the great pain and burden of the family. Currently, textbooks and scientific works on pediatric cerebral palsy can be found in the market, but they are less practical and operable. In order to meet the needs of parents and community rehabilitation professionals, we have prepared this practical guide for family rehabilitation of pediatric cerebral palsy, which is equipped with a VCD for family rehabilitation of pediatric cerebral palsy to make the book more practical and operable. It can also guide parents to detect and diagnose cerebral palsy as early as possible, and start long-term rehabilitation training as early as possible. The first chapter is an overview of pediatric cerebral palsy, which is general, popular and scientific. The second chapter is about the rules of normal neuropsychiatric development of children. The rules and indicators of the development of various abilities of children are presented to readers with concise text descriptions and clear tables. The third chapter is about diagnosis and differential diagnosis, which teaches the reader the early signs, clinical manifestations, early diagnosis basis, diagnosis and differential diagnosis of pediatric cerebral palsy in easy-to-understand language and concise and clear indicators, so that the reader will feel like talking to an expert face to face, and will have a clear pulse in his mind, which can be put into the practice of child rehabilitation training. Chapter 4 is about early intervention, telling the reader what “at-risk infants” are, why and how to implement early family intervention training, and reminding the reader not to wait for the child to have serious problems before implementing training, otherwise, the effect will be “half the effort with twice the effort. Otherwise, the effect will be “half the result”. Chapters 6-13 tell parents in vivid detail how to implement rehabilitation education and training, as if experts were around to teach you what to do, how to do it, and how to evaluate the results. As long as you study diligently and understand carefully, you will become a mother not only in the biological sense of “licking the calf” but also in the sense of “educational love”, and your child will be on the road to success with your proper education. The journey to success in life. The book is reprinted with the latest research on the causes of cerebral palsy; it introduces in detail the effects of weak magnetic physical radiation, indoor decoration pollution, pet keeping, second-hand smoke pollution, pesticide, pesticide, detergent pollution, and noise pollution on the fetus and its prevention. It is gratifying to see the addition of music rehabilitation therapy, which is easy to implement at home, has no side effects and makes children happy. The principles of music for brain development, the techniques and methods of music therapy are introduced systematically. How parents can choose the repertoire of music to listen to according to the child’s condition and bring more happiness to the child with cerebral palsy and the family in the rehabilitation. Chapter 10 introduces the Chinese herbal medicine commonly used to strengthen the spleen and kidneys, educate and strengthen the brain, pass through the channels and dispel phlegm, activate blood circulation and eliminate blood stasis, and nourish the liver and quench the wind, which have achieved remarkable results in clinical application. However, we often encounter the difficulty of children to cooperate with Chinese medicine for a long time, which brings new troubles and pains to children and parents. Because medicine and food are of the same origin, we have carefully selected and reasonably formulated the Chinese herbal medicine into a series of dietary treatment formula for children with cerebral palsy, which have all received satisfactory results in practice and solved the trouble of children taking Chinese medicine. We have supplemented more than 30 TCM prescriptions for cerebral palsy with mental retardation, language disorder, epilepsy, malnutrition, drooling, physical weakness, poor appetite, etc. For more than ten years, we have implemented the triple combination model of modern medical rehabilitation + traditional medical rehabilitation + family medical rehabilitation for children with cerebral palsy, which has received good clinical rehabilitation results and greater social benefits. In the course of guiding thousands of children with cerebral palsy in family rehabilitation, especially in the five years since the publication of “Let Children with Cerebral Palsy Have a Happy Life”, many parents have raised various questions during the implementation of family rehabilitation, and in the reprint, we have added expert Q&A to provide detailed answers to the questions parents have encountered during the actual operation. Interviews with parents of children with cerebral palsy have been added, introducing parents’ successful experiences in home care, rehabilitation training, and parenting education. The rehabilitation of every child with cerebral palsy has taken the hard work and diligent sweat of a great mother. The stories of each parent interview will bring great inspiration to the readers. It is heartening to know that many children with cerebral palsy have recovered through long-term home rehabilitation and have entered school with excellent grades under the tutelage of this book and the rehabilitation training VCD. As the editor of this book, I feel very happy! On the occasion of the reprint of this book, we would like to thank the rehabilitation team of more than 80 medical and nursing staffs in our rehabilitation center for their hard work and tireless guidance to parents on home rehabilitation for thousands of children with cerebral palsy. Thanks to Dr. Zhao Yili, Dr. Li Suyun, Chen Minping physical therapist, Yin Xiantao music therapist, and Li Wenxin special education teacher for compiling and analyzing their successful cases and experiences to share with you. I would like to thank my graduate students, Nuo Li, Guanjun Luo, Wenjian Zhao, and Lihong Zhang, for their assistance in compiling some of the chapters in this book.
