Before treating a high clotting time, it is important to first identify the type of cause of the high clotting time. If it is a congenital clotting factor deficiency that causes a prolonged clotting time, treatment may require treatment with a clotting factor replacement method. The coagulation function is improved by transfusion of certain clotting factors. If it is a secondary cause of prolonged clotting time, such as caused by certain medications, it can be restored to normal by stopping taking such medications. Another category is caused by certain diseases, such as common liver cancer and cirrhosis patients, due to impaired coagulation factor production, resulting in prolonged prothrombin time. In addition to comprehensive treatment of the original disease, fresh frozen plasma and coagulation factors must be transfused to give replacement, thus correcting the abnormal coagulation function and restoring the normal prothrombin time.
