There is no such thing as “what medicines for wind-heat colds work fast”. Clinical drugs should be chosen according to the specific symptoms, such as Yin Qiao San, Sang Ju Drink and so on. The efficacy of treatment is also affected by the condition and personal constitution, and cannot be generalized.
Wind-heat colds are mostly caused by wind-heat evils attacking the surface of the muscles, leading to dysfunction of the lungs and guards, heat depletion of the surface of the muscles, and the lungs are not cleansed. TCM practitioners often use pungent, cool and symptomatic remedies to treat these colds, and commonly used representative formulas include:
1. The formula of Yin Qiao San includes forsythia, silver flower, bitter platycodon, peppermint, bamboo leaf, raw licorice, mustard, tempeh and burdock. It has the effects of pungent coolness and symptomatic relief, clearing heat and removing toxins.
It is suitable for wind-heat cold with fever and headache, sore throat, and short and red urine (small amount of urine with dark yellow color). It should not be taken with tonic drugs.
2. Mulberry and Chrysanthemum Drink is composed of mulberry leaf, chrysanthemum, almond, forsythia, peppermint, bitter tangerine root, licorice and reed root.
It has the effects of pungent coolness to relieve epidemics, clearing wind-heat and promoting lung-heat to stop coughing (stopping coughing by promoting lung-heat). It is suitable for cough of wind-heat cold with little body heat and slight thirst. However, it should not be used for wind-cold cold and flu with fever, fear of cold, and no thirst in the mouth.
In addition to the formula, Chinese medicines such as Lianhua Qingdian Granules, Oral Liquid for Relieving Cough and Panting, Banlangen Granules, etc., which are commonly used in clinics, are also effective in treating wind-heat colds.
The above prescriptions are for reference only, patients should consult a professional doctor before taking them and use them under the doctor’s guidance.
