If the ultrasound indicates that the thyroid nodule is malignant, surgical intervention is needed rather than intervention with drugs. The preoperative evaluation of benign and malignant thyroid nodules is based on the results of thyroid ultrasound, including the size of the nodule, the speed of growth of the nodule in the short term, and whether the nodule is hard, whether there is sand-like calcification in the nodule, whether there is abundant blood flow signal, whether the border is intact, whether there are adhesions between the nodule and the surrounding soft tissues, such as adhesions in the anterior cervical band, and whether there are multiple nodules in addition to the thyroid In addition to thyroid nodules, the presence of multiple enlarged lymph nodes, especially if there are sandy calcifications in the lymph nodes, should be considered as a malignant condition, and several pieces of information should be considered. In addition, the patient’s family history, such as the history of thyroid cancer in parents, brothers and sisters, and the history of ionizing radiation when the patient was a child, should be taken into account to determine whether surgical intervention is needed. If the thyroid nodule is benign and does not cause breathing and swallowing disorders, no intervention or medication is needed and observation is sufficient. If the nodule is malignant, or if the nodule is too large to compress the trachea or esophagus, the patient should consider surgery at this time.
