Women with unicornuate uterus have the probability of normal fertility as well as infertility. Unicornuate uterus is a congenital abnormality of uterine development in which only one side of the paramedian tube develops normally to form a unicornuate uterus and the ipsilateral ovary functions normally. Since the other side of the paramedian tube is completely undeveloped or does not form a tube, a unicornuate uterus is formed, and the ipsilateral ovaries and fallopian tubes and kidneys are often absent at the same time. If the unicornuate uterus is relatively large and the ovaries and fallopian tubes are functioning normally, then the probability of normal fertility increases significantly. However, spontaneous abortion and preterm labor are likely to occur after pregnancy. If the unicornuate uterus is smaller in size, the chances of pregnancy are relatively lower. Most patients with unicornuate uterus have no symptoms, and many women find out about it only when they have an ultrasound.
