Brown blood from the vagina during non-menstrual periods should be further examined and treated. If the bleeding from the uterine cavity is slow and accumulates in the uterine cavity as well as the vagina for a relatively long period of time, a brownish colored discharge may form. In this case, a basic duplex examination is performed to find out where the bleeding is coming from, which may be from the vagina, cervix, or uterine cavity, and in most cases it is from the uterine cavity, which is an abnormal uterine bleeding. To rule out or clarify the possibility of pregnancy, an HCG test and ultrasound can be performed, and a hysteroscopy can be performed to see if there are any abnormal growths in the uterine cavity. Endometrial curettage should be performed, and further diagnosis and management based on postoperative pathology may require pharmacologic intervention or other surgical procedures.
