What is a diabetic foot?

  ”Older sugar lovers know that they should stay away from fruits with high sugar content such as watermelon, lychee and longan in summer; they also understand that diabetes itself is not scary, but its complications are. But most of them may not know that summer is the high season of diabetic foot, a complication of diabetes. In the summer, old sugar lovers tend to control their “mouth” but neglect their “feet”.  Generally speaking, the development of diabetes to a certain stage, the foot small trauma, such as shoe extrusion, abrasions, cracking or ‘corns’ improperly handled, etc. can trigger the diabetic foot. Summer is a good season for diabetic foot, because there are more chances of barefoot in summer, the foot is easy to be bruised and scratched, and the skin is prone to itching due to more sweating and mosquito bites in summer, or suffering from tinea pedis, gray nail and other skin diseases, such diabetic patients’ skin is easily infected after being scratched, and the wound is not easy to heal, forming diabetic foot.  So, how can we better prevent the occurrence of diabetic foot in summer? In the hot summer, many diabetic patients do not like to move, the blood often does not circulate well, atherosclerosis occurs in the lower limbs leading to foot ischemia, thus forming a diabetic foot. Therefore, diabetic patients should rub their legs and bellies more often in summer to unblock the blood vessels. You can also rub your feet to promote blood circulation in the feet to prevent foot pain, weakness and numbness. Not only that, the following points need special attention: 1. Check the feet every day. Check the skin on the bottom of the foot for redness, cracking, blisters, crush injuries, ringworm, scratches, etc.; 2, keep the feet clean. Wash your feet daily with warm water and soft soap. After washing, gently dry with a towel, pay special attention to keep the toes dry.  3.Correctly trim toenails. Trim toenails after washing feet when they become soft, should not be cut too short too close to the skin, so as not to damage the skin caused by infection. More can not be at the corns paste corns cream and other irritating drugs, and can not be trimmed with knives, scissors, etc..  4, do not wear sandals. Even in summer, it is not advisable to wear sandals or hard leather shoes that expose the toes and heels. You should choose soft, breathable cloth shoes and moccasins. You should also check the shoes for foreign objects before each wear. Do not walk barefoot at home in the summer because you want to be cool, and do not walk barefoot on the beach when you travel to the beach.  5, the choice of socks. Socks should be loose, choose cotton socks, change them every day, and make sure they are flat and wrinkle-free when wearing them, and do not wear socks with nails.  6, the choice of lying equipment. In summer, diabetic patients should choose a soft linen mat or straw mat, not a hard bamboo mat, so as not to scratch or stab the foot.  7, if you find foot blisters, infection and other symptoms, to go to a diabetes specialist in a timely manner, do not deal with at home.
