Hepatitis B can heal itself, however, the rate of self-healing is relatively low. When major triplets are converted to minor triplets, self-healing occurs in about 0.5% to 1.0% of cases each year. Self-healing is related to several factors: 1. e antigen negative, i.e. small triplet hepatitis B. 2. relatively low surface antigen values, less than 200 IU. 3. relatively low viral replication levels, hepatitis B viral DNA less than 2000 IU. 4. and age related. In the lifetime of a person with chronic hepatitis B virus infection, there are two peaks in the natural conversion of surface antigen: the first peak occurs at the age of 10-20, with a natural conversion rate of about 2.7% per year; the second peak occurs after the age of 50, with a natural conversion rate of up to 6.6% per year.
