Weakly positive proline aminopeptidase indicates the presence of vaginal inflammation, mainly bacterial vaginitis and trichomoniasis.
Both types of vaginal inflammation, bacterial vaginitis and trichomonas vaginitis, may result in positive or weakly positive proline aminopeptidase. There are significant differences between these two types of vaginitis.
Bacterial vaginitis is mostly caused by an imbalance in the vaginal flora due to the body’s immunity and a decrease in the number of vaginal lactobacilli. Bacterial vaginitis leukorrhea has a typical fishy odor and clue cells can be seen under the microscope, all of which suggest bacterial vaginitis.
Trichomonas vaginitis is a type of vaginal infection with trichomonas. When trichomonas vaginitis occurs, the leukorrhea is foamy, sometimes accompanied by yellowish-green color, and it will cause a serious imbalance of the vaginal flora, and the trichomonas can be detected under the microscope.
It is advisable to consult a specialized doctor for details.
