Do meningiomas go away on their own?

Meningiomas do not go away on their own, regardless of size. Meningiomas are the most common benign tumors in the skull. It is a slow growing, enveloping tumor with clear borders. Although meningiomas grow slowly, they will continue to grow if left untreated. Once discovered, meningioma must be treated surgically, i.e. craniotomy, because the tumor is insensitive to chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and only surgery can achieve a cure. However, there is one condition in which meningioma does not require surgery, namely menopausal women, if the tumor is less than 3 cm in size and the tumor does not cause any clinical symptoms, they can be observed and followed up because meningioma may stop growing in menopausal women. The growth of meningioma is related to the hormone level in the body. Meningioma will stop growing in menopausal women with low estrogen level in the body, but meningioma will not disappear automatically, it is just in the state of stopping growth and being stationary.
