Pregnant women of advanced age for IVF transplantation are advised to see a eugenic geneticist for early detection of the risk of chromosomal disorders in the fetus and to ensure the quality of the pregnancy. IVF refers to in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer technique and advanced age is defined as age ≥35 years. Since elderly pregnant women are high-risk pregnancies and any embryo transfer will increase the risk of fetal chromosomal disorders, it is recommended to see the Eugenics and Genetics Department and follow the doctor’s instructions for appropriate prenatal diagnostic tests, such as amniocentesis, in order to definitively rule out the risk of fetal morbidity. Pregnant women of advanced age should strengthen the management of pregnancy, follow the doctor’s advice to have antenatal checkups on time, and undergo appropriate screening tests, such as NT (fetal nuchal translucency thickness) measurement and ultrasonography for fetal structural anomalies. Nutrition during pregnancy should also be strengthened to ensure adequate intake of nutrients such as protein, calcium, iron and vitamins.
