Fifth metatarsal fracture healing criteria

Clinical healing of the fracture of the fifth metatarsal is characterized by clinical healing. Clinical healing criteria are that the patient feels that the pain at the fracture end of the fifth metatarsal is not obvious or has been reduced significantly, the local swelling has subsided significantly, the local compression pain is negative, the percussion pain is negative, the movement of the foot is normal, and there is no palpable bone rubbing sound, and there is no feeling of abnormal activity. Combined with the x-ray film of the fifth metatarsal, the degree of healing of the fracture and the amount of bone scab growth can be clearly seen through the x-ray film. Based on these determinations, it is clear whether the fifth metatarsal fracture has met the criteria for healing. It is important to take radiographs of the fifth metatarsal before healing, and to consider early functional exercises after making a definitive diagnosis by x-ray.
