Chronic pharyngitis belongs to laryngeal paralysis (redness, swelling and pain in the pharynx, or dryness, foreign body sensation, or itchy discomfort in the pharynx, and difficulty in swallowing), and can be effectively relieved by traditional Chinese medicines, but whether it is cured varies from person to person, and is closely related to the severity of the disease as well as the patient’s diet and work routine. Commonly used medicines are Xiao Feng Qing Hei Tang (疏风清热汤), Zhong Yi Qi Tang (补中益氣汤), Qing Yu Li Diaphragm Tang (清咽利膈汤), etc. 1. Wind-expelling and Heat-clearing Soup: This medicine mainly targets the symptoms of wind-heat attacking the lungs, such as severe sore throat, increased pain when swallowing, bright red and swollen mucous membrane of the pharynx, fever, chills (fear of cold), headache, yellow and thick sputum in coughing, red tongue, thin and yellowish moss, and floating number of pulses, etc. The medicine includes Thorax, Fenphenium, Fenphenium, and Fenghua. The medicines include thorns, windproof, honeysuckle, forsythia, scutellaria, red peony and so on. 2. tonifying the center and benefiting qi soup: this medicine targets symptoms such as tiredness and fatigue, lack of energy and laziness in speech (lack of strength, don’t want to talk), poor appetite, abdominal distension, loose stools, pale red tongue with teeth marks on the sides, etc. The medicine includes astragalus, atractylodes macrocephala, roasted licorice, chaihu, and shengma. 3. Clearing the pharynx and diaphragm soup: this medicine mainly targets dry cough with little and thick sputum, blood in the sputum, heat in the hands, feet and heart, hot flashes and night sweats (sweating abnormally after going to sleep and stopping after waking up), zygomatic redness (reddish color of the cheeks and zygomatic bones), insomnia and sleeplessness, and other symptoms of heatiness of the lungs and stomach. Medicines include Thorax, Fenghuang, Mentha piperita, Honeysuckle, Forsythia, Gardenia, Scutellaria baicalensis, Rhizoma Coptidis, and others. The contraindications of the above medicines are not clear, and the medicines should be taken in strict accordance with the doctor’s prescription.
