A must read after nasal endoscopy!

  Please read the following instructions carefully, which provide information on the various conditions that may occur after surgery. The success of the procedure depends on your compliance with the following instructions.  Possible bleeding after endoscopic sinus surgery Bleeding: Some amount of bleeding is normal after surgery. Expect some bloody discharge from the nasal cavity for 3-5 days after surgery, especially after sinus irrigation. If bleeding persists after surgery, tilt your head back slightly and breathe gently through your nose, gently wiping away the bleeding with a tissue and not blowing your nose hard. If this fails to stop the bleeding, you may use ephedrine nasal drops. Rest in a semi-recumbent position. If the bleeding still does not stop, you should come to the hospital immediately to see your doctor or to the nearest emergency tamponade to stop the bleeding.  Pain: Expect to feel stuffiness and pain in your nose and sinuses for a few days beginning after surgery, a sensation similar to sinusitis or a dull pain in your sinuses, and we will provide you with a prescription for medications that you need to take for post-operative pain. You should try to avoid taking aspirin and NSAIDs such as Depo-Provera, Fenbid.  Fatigue: You may feel tired during the first week after surgery. This is normal and most patients need 1 week off to recover. Each patient is different and some patients are able to recover and start working earlier.  Nasal congestion and runny nose: You may experience nasal congestion and runny nose for the first few weeks after surgery due to swelling of the nasal mucosa after surgery. Nasal ventilation and breathing usually return to normal after 2-3 weeks after surgery.  Post-operative review You will need to be reviewed a certain number of times after surgery, depending on what kind of surgery you had. We will clean your nose and sinuses of any post-operative secretions and blood during these reviews. These follow-ups are essential to help facilitate the healing process, so it is important that you do them regularly.  What to avoid after nasal endoscopy Blowing your nose hard: avoid blowing your nose hard for 10 days after surgery, half amount of exercise for 1 week after surgery and return to normal exercise after 2 weeks; Aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs: must be stopped for 2 weeks before surgery and avoided for 2 weeks after surgery because they can cause bleeding; Steroidal nasal sprays: should not be used for 2 weeks after septal surgery because they may affect the wound healing, and the rest of the surgery Please follow the doctor’s advice; Post-operative care instructions Room humidification nebulization, it can make your nasal cavity feel comfortable. You can also use medications like nasal wetting spray and aspirate, many of which are over-the-counter and can be purchased at any pharmacy.  Nasal rinsing: Nasal rinsing (with a nasal irrigator) can be started on the 2nd day after the nasal filling is withdrawn, at least once a day; bloody discharge may occur during the first few days of postoperative rinsing, and postoperative rinsing is crucial to the success of the procedure.  When to see your doctor for postoperative consultation Unstoppable nasal bleeding; postoperative fever over 38.5 degrees; persistent clear fluid discharge for 1 week after surgery; sudden vision changes and eye edema; severe headache or neck stiffness.
