The swelling sensation or pain is usually caused by local Qi stagnation, which is known as Qi stagnation. The actual pathological change of the swelling of the ribs should be a certain obstruction of local blood circulation and a possible increase of local internal pressure. Once this swelling occurs, a local radiograph or local CT examination should be performed to prevent the development of some swelling on the rib cage. This type of sensation may be caused by benign bone tumors, such as osteoid osteoma or osteochondroma, which may lead to increased pressure in the rib cage and surrounding tissues, resulting in swelling. Other cases are caused by local soft tissue lesions, such as chronic local inflammation during the exudative phase, which may also manifest as swelling.
