What is thyroid disease

  There are many types of thyroid disorders. Common thyroid disorders include hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, and thyroiditis.  1. Hyperthyroidism is an autoimmune disease that is caused by the thyroid gland secreting too much thyroid hormone, resulting in an accelerated basal metabolic rate of the body. It can manifest as panic, chest tightness, excessive sweating, fear of heat, eating more, weight loss, trembling fingers and eyelids, etc. Severe cases can even lead to impotence and premature ejaculation in men, and women can cause menstrual cycle disorders.  2. Hypothyroidism is caused by inflammation of the thyroid gland or insufficient secretion of hormones from the thyroid gland. It can manifest as weight gain, slow body reaction, edema, fear of cold, dry skin, increased menstrual flow, and weakness.  3. Thyroiditis can be divided into acute thyroiditis, subacute thyroiditis, and chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis. Acute thyroiditis is common in people with chronic diseases and poor resistance, and can mostly be characterized by fever, redness, swelling, heat and pain at the thyroid gland. Subacute thyroiditis may be caused by a viral infection and will mostly present with pain and nodules.  There are many different types of thyroid disorders, and you need to be examined promptly when you feel unwell.
