There is no standardized recovery time for spinal stenosis surgery. Bone healing is usually achieved in 3 to 6 months and full recovery can be achieved, and the exact recovery time will vary depending on the surgical procedure, patient’s physical condition and other aspects. Spinal stenosis surgery mostly refers to the surgical removal of the spinal canal occupying tissues to reduce the pressure of the spinal canal, including minimally invasive surgery and open surgery. Generally speaking, minimally invasive surgery has a smaller trauma for faster recovery and open surgery has a larger trauma for slower recovery. If a young patient is in good physical condition or is treated with minimally invasive surgery, he or she may be able to get off the floor in 3 to 4 weeks and make a full recovery in 3 months. If the patient is in poorer health or older, the overall recovery time may be relatively slower, or if the open surgery is more traumatic, it may take up to 6 months or even longer for the bone to heal and fully recover. Patients with spinal stenosis should avoid wound infections, eat more protein-rich foods, maintain an optimistic mindset, and actively cooperate with the doctor’s treatment, all of which are helpful in shortening the patient’s post-operative recovery time.
