What is the best surgical procedure for spinal stenosis?

Surgery for spinal stenosis needs to be selected according to different indications, mainly including spinal canal enlargement and fusion surgery, etc. Different conditions require different surgical procedures, and there is no absolute “best”.
1. Vertebral canal enlargement: Vertebral canal stenosis is one of the more serious types of vertebral disease, and most patients undergo surgery due to compression of the nerve tissue. If the patient has multi-segmental stenosis combined with calcification or ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament, usually the choice is vertebral canal enlargement, and by enlarging the canal, it is possible to effectively decompress the nerve tissue at the back of the vertebral canal.
2. Vertebral body fusion: If the patient has vertebral instability or changes in the spinal force line in conjunction with spinal stenosis, and taking into account that vertebral canal enlargement and plasty will cause more damage to the posterior tissues, vertebral body fusion can be chosen to restore the curvature and stability of the entire spine, and also effectively decompress the compressed neural tissues.
The surgical approach for patients with spinal stenosis needs to be decided after a comprehensive evaluation by a specialized physician based on the patient’s imaging results and symptoms.
