Four Ling San functions as a water-inducing and dampness-expelling agent (promoting the flow of fluids to dispel dampness). It is used to treat water-dampness and diarrhea, and dysuria (unsmooth urination).
Four Ling San is composed of Poria, Poria, Zelia, Atractylodes Macrocephala. It is clinically applied to diarrhea caused by spleen deficiency and dampness, dysfunction of transportation and digestion. Symptoms include loose stools with undigested food, increased stools with a little grease, accompanied by fatigue (mental exhaustion, physical weakness), pale tongue, thin white moss, and thin slippery pulse; ulcerative colitis and chronic enteritis are seen in the above symptoms.
It can also be applied to retention of urine (dribbling of urine or inability to urinate) caused by dampness and depression of the bladder and unfavorable qi transformation. The symptoms are: unfavorable urination, small amount of urine or even no urine coming out, pale tongue, white thick and greasy moss, dull and slippery pulse; prostatitis, urinary retention with the above symptoms.
