How can I control my asthma?

Asthma is a global problem that seriously endangers human health, according to the World Health Organization. The economic burden caused by asthma patients to society has exceeded that of tuberculosis and AIDS combined. The harm it causes to human beings has attracted the high attention of governments, and China has included asthma as one of the major diseases. Bronchial asthma is a common respiratory disease in children, and its pathogenesis has not been fully elucidated. Modern medicine believes that bronchial asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease of the airways characterized by eosinophil and mast cell reactions and airway hyperreactivity. The current treatment of asthma is based on “anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, antispasmodic and asthma calming”, and the drugs for asthma are constantly updated, but the control of asthma in pediatric clinics is still not satisfactory, mainly because of the following reasons: 1. The main anti-inflammatory drug for asthma treatment is hormone, and parents’ compliance is not enough; 4. The side effects of some therapeutic drugs also limit the clinical application. Therefore, the application of Chinese medicine for the treatment of asthma in children has greater advantages and research space, especially in the last two decades, Chinese medicine and the combination of Chinese and Western medicine have made greater progress in the prevention and treatment of asthma in children, and Chinese herbal medicine has a significant regulatory effect on the immune system of asthma models. Clinically, TCM has divided asthma into three phases of dialectical treatment according to the GINA protocol: exacerbation phase – uncontrolled phase; persistent phase – partially controlled phase; remission phase – controlled phase. The treatment also takes into account the multi-causes of asthma in children and adopts a comprehensive and multi-approach treatment method. In the exacerbation period, we should distinguish between cold and heat, and treat them flexibly. In the remission period, according to the deficiency of the three organs of the lung, spleen and kidney, methods such as strengthening the spleen and benefiting the qi, tonifying the lung and fixing the surface, strengthening the spleen and warming the kidney, and consolidating the qi are used to adjust the function of the internal organs, reduce and control the attacks, in order to cure the asthma. At the same time, TCM practitioners can also choose a variety of treatment methods according to different periods, conditions and stages of the disease: during the attack period, traditional Chinese medicine can be used with acupuncture point compresses to enhance the effectiveness of asthma and cough; during the remission period, on the basis of traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture point compresses, “winter disease and summer treatment” and “winter disease and winter treatment” are used. During the remission period, acupuncture point patching, “winter disease and summer treatment”, “winter disease and winter treatment”, as well as acupuncture, fire cupping and other comprehensive treatments are used to improve clinical effectiveness. Recently, there are even some studies that show that Chinese medicine can reduce the side effects of asthma treatment drugs, reduce the dose and duration of asthma treatment drugs, increase the compliance of parents of children, and effectively control asthma attacks. Therefore, TCM, combined Chinese and Western medicine, and complementary Chinese and Western medicine have good prospects for the treatment of asthma in children.
