What are the psychological characteristics of patients with chronic lumbar disc herniation?

Lumbar disc herniation is a common chronic disease that recurs over a long period of time, and these patients are accompanied by different degrees of psychological disorders due to long-term pain. In this study, 234 patients with chronic lumbar disc herniation were compared with a normal control group, with a view to providing certain references for the psychological rehabilitation treatment of this group of patients. Ormel et al.’s study on 6 kinds of 5078 chronic patients found that 24.5% of the patients had mood disorders, of which 17% had obvious depressive symptoms and 14.7% had obvious anxiety symptoms. Similar results have been obtained by domestic scholars in their studies of patients with chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, chronic digestive disease, chronic prostatitis and rheumatoid arthritis. The results of this paper also support this result. In view of this situation, we believe that in the physical treatment of chronic lumbar disc herniation patients, we should pay attention to psychological rehabilitation treatment to stabilize the patient’s mood, improve their self-esteem and positive coping ability, so as to achieve the purpose of improving the patient’s mental health and promoting the recovery of the disease.
