Patients will experience painful swallowing and difficulty in swallowing when a foreign body occurs in the esophagus, most commonly animal bones such as fish spines and chicken bones. If the foreign body is visible in the larynx, it can be gently removed with tweezers. If the foreign body is not visible in the laryngopharynx, it should be promptly removed by indirect laryngoscopy in the hospital, do not use the method of eating steamed buns or drinking vinegar to avoid scratching the mucosa of the esophagus. If the foreign body is metal-based, the location of the foreign body can be determined by X-ray first. If the foreign body is embedded in the narrow part of the esophagus, it should be removed under gastroscopy or esophagoscopy. If a foreign body occurs in the esophagus, it is important to go to the hospital promptly, as more than 24 hours can lead to congestion and edema of the esophageal mucosa, which can affect the removal of the foreign body.
